Carolina Brewery to Launch New Branding and Cans

Pittsboro, NC - This month, shoppers may notice newly designed packaging and cans from Carolina Brewery arriving on shelves. This new look is part of the brewery’s brand relaunch which promotes the best of the Carolinas’ outdoor lifestyle and coastal conservation. This extensive refresh has entailed redefining the Carolina Brewery brand, redesigning cans and packaging, establishing partnerships with coastal conservation groups, and launching a new beer, Costero Mexican Lager.

Robert Poitras, Carolina Brewery’s Founder, said, “Over the last year, we reflected on who we are and what we stand for. We kept coming back to why we founded Carolina Brewery: our love of the Carolinas and great beer. My team and I are excited to bring these pillars back to the forefront of our brand.”

Changes to the brand include a new logo; new website, new uniforms, new partnerships with conservation organizations like the NC Coastal Foundation, brand ambassador partnerships, and a new tagline that reflects the brand’s emphasis on Carolina adventures: “Who’s In?”

“Our target customers are doers who maintain an active lifestyle and have high expectations for their products and their values,” said Poitras. “Our beer is the perfect addition to their adventures throughout North and South Carolina. Whether someone’s fly fishing in the Smokies, surfing in the Outer Banks or chasing redfish in the ACE Basic, our clean, drinkable beer will make these experiences all the more rewarding.”

New Logo

Carolina Brewery’s new logo highlights the dynamism and coastal flair of the brand. Carolina Brewery replaced its badge logo for a simplified but dynamic script. The logo features a secondary design that can be read as a wave and hook with the Carolina sun in the background. Below the design is “NC • SC”, the two states that Carolina Brewery has celebrated for over 25 years.

New Packaging

In addition to its brand, Carolina Brewery has redesigned its cans and packaging for its three most popular beers: Sky Blue Kolsch, Copperline Amber Ale, and American IPA. The packaging honors to the Carolinas’ outdoors and the lifestyle that celebrates them.

The new can and packaging designs have been simplified and pay homage to the Carolinas’ coasts and waterways.

Becky Hammond, Carolina Brewery’s Executive Brewer, said, “Our beer is excellent, but beer isn’t the star of the show. The great times and company that you share it with are. We brew our beers to be unwavering companions for your Carolina adventures.”

Costero Mexican Lager

Just in time for summer on the coast, Carolina Brewery has launched its newest beer, Costero Mexican Lager. Light, crisp, and brewed to be thoroughly drinkable, Costero is our ode to the Carolina coast.  This refreshing cerveza can be enjoyed straight from the can or with a squeeze of lime.

Costero will join Carolina Brewery’s three foundational beers: Sky Blue Kolsch, Copperline Amber Ale and American IPA. All are available year-round on shelves and taps throughout the Carolinas.

Conservation

Conservation is a keystone of Carolina Brewery’s new brand. The brewery has removed plastic in its packaging so that every piece of it is fully recyclable.

“On our six packs, we eliminated the plastic pack rings in favor of packaging our beer in cardboard, which can always be recycled,” said Hammond. “Although this is more expensive for us, it’s the right thing to do on many levels. It’s hard to enjoy the outdoors when they’re polluted, and it’s impossible to brew excellent beer without clean water.”

The brewery has also established partnerships with the NC Coastal Federation, REAL Watersports, and XPLOR Boats to support coastal conservation - and adventure - throughout the Carolinas.

“It would be impossible to celebrate the Carolinas’ outdoors lifestyle without supporting conservation,” Poitras said. “That’s why we’re partnering with the NC Coastal Federation to aid them in their mission to preserve our coasts and waterways.”

Carolina Brewery will provide financial support, cater food and beer for events, and host fundraising events for the organization. The brewery is forming additional partnerships with other conversation groups in North and South Carolina.

Renovated Brewery Restaurants

Carolina Brewery has invested in major renovations to break down the barrier between indoor and outdoor spaces, including an extended patio at the Chapel Hill location and an entirely new patio and furniture with a stage for live music in Pittsboro. Pittsboro now boasts an outdoor stage for regular concerts on its patio. Dogs are always welcome on the patio. Chapel Hill is also installing an entirely new brew house for seasonal and experimental brews.

“We’ve started hosting live music and NC Shrimp Boils on the patio,” said Poitras. “After being cooped up for so long, people are thrilled to enjoy fresh beer and good times again. The energy is infectious.”

New Retail Partnerships

Over the past year, Carolina Brewery has expanded its territory and presence at retailers. Their beers can now be found in bars, restaurants, and stores throughout North Carolina and on the South Carolina coast.

Additionally, the brewery recently launched a collection of sauces and rubs. These include Carolina Style BBQ Sauce, Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce, and Carolina Style Rub. Carolina Style BBQ Sauce is a traditional vinegar-based BBQ from Eastern North Carolina with a kick from cayenne peppers. Carolina Gold is a South Carolina mustard-based sauce that is excellent on pulled pork or chicken. Finally, the Carolina Style Rub is a spice blend perfect for grilling and smoking.

“We create our sauces and rubs with the same care that we use to brew our beer,” said Poitras. “We follow traditional Carolina recipes for authentic flavor. We don’t use any preservatives or additives. Our sauces and rubs just taste better this way.”

Chains such as Food Lion, Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, Ingles, Kroger, Lowes Foods, Publix, and Walmart carry Carolina Brewery’s beers and other products.
