THE BEGINNING
In 1995, our founder, Robert Poitras, opened Carolina Brewery’s doors on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. A third-generation UNC alumnus raised in Eastern North Carolina, Poitras’s interest in craft beer began while still in college when he traveled to Europe and became enamored with the local customs and flavors.
The following summer spent in Southern California exposed Poitras to the local craft brewery business in the United States. Upon returning home to North Carolina and graduating with honors from UNC Chapel Hill, Poitras built Carolina Brewery and established the reputation of being one of the top breweries in the state.
OUR BREWERY
Our award winning, handcrafted beers have gained national recognition with medals from the nation’s premier beer competitions like the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and World Beer Championships. Recent GABF medals include bronze medals for Oatmeal Porter and Sky Blue Kolsch in 2013 and 2012, respectively, a gold medal in 2006 for Flagship IPA, and a 2018 silver medal for Copperline Amber Ale .
Carolina Brewery continues to expand its offerings with fresh and exciting year round and specialty beer styles.
OUR FIRST BREWPUB
Carolina Brewery’s doors first opened in 1995 as the leader of the areas brewing scene. Twenty-five years later, Chapel Hill residents are still supporting their local brewery and can always find fresh, craft beer and delicious food.
OUR SECOND BREWPUB
After the great success of our first location in Chapel Hill, we decided to grow our family by adding our fantastic Pittsboro location. For twelve years, this location has been serving great beer right at the intersection of Hwy 501 and the 64 bypass.
OUR DISTRUBUTION
Carolina Brewery has been a successful brewery and restaurant for over 25 years, our beers can now be found across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Eastern Tennessee.
